Wanaka freeski brothers Byron and Beau-James Wells have missed out on the X Games Aspen men's superpipe final after the elimination round today.

Byron missed a landing during his first run and, despite a solid score in his second run, had to settle for 12th place.

The top eight will advance to Saturday's final.

Beau-James, making his X Games debut, put down an impressive opening run to briefly sit in third place.

A similar second run saw him finish 15th overall.

United States skier David Wise produced an outstanding second run to finish as top qualifier.

Jossi Wells will compete in the slopestyle elimination on Saturday, hoping to qualify for Monday's finals, and the Big Air final on Sunday.
