Hardcore motorsport fans are huddling under umbrellas, plastic sheets and jackets braving rain and cold weather for day two of the maiden Toyota Racing Series/V8 SuperTourers event at Highlands Motorsport Park in Cromwell today.

In stark contrast to warm temperatures yesterday which drew about 10,000 to the motorsport park, the cooler weather obviously deterred some spectators for the second day of racing.

The wet weather also had implications for drivers who had to contend with a slippery circuit.

Invercargill Toyota Racing Series drivers, Damon and Brendon Leitch were not fazed by the rain.

''You've just got to be a bit more careful driving - it will be a bit more slippery,'' Damon Leitch said.
