WICKET-TO-WICKET: Southland Boys' High bowler Nick McCallam picked up a five-wicket-bag against Invercargill-Old Boys.

Blair McKenzie and Nick McCallum were the individual stars in Southland's senior club cricket one-day competition on Saturday as they led their teams to important wins.

McKenzie was the catalyst behind getting Waikoikoi through to a whopping 315 for four against Marist when he opened the batting and racked up 112.

He set the tone with his opening partner Scott Chittock (74), posting 123 for the first wicket as they put the Marist bowlers under pressure.

Rheubyn Prattley (65) continued the batting assault as the Healthy Soils Ltd-sponsored team marched on to 300-plus.

It was always going to be a difficult task in reply for Marist, although Damien Eade (27) and Shaun Fitzgibbon (39) did get them off to a positive start when they put on 77 for the first wicket.

The introduction of spin, and most notably Jared McKenzie, halted Marist as McKenzie took four for 27 from his 10 overs.

Nathan Howden then finished the Marist innings off, also taking four wickets, as they were dismissed for 231.

McCallum's man-of-the-match deeds came with ball for Southland Boys' High School, his five-wicket haul the key factor in ripping through the AWS Invercargill-Old Boys lineup to bowl them out for just 100.

It wasn't all smooth sailing in the chase for Southland Boys' as they lost five wickets relatively cheaply. However, the in-form James Ng ensured he got his team home, with an unbeaten 52.

Former Southland and Otago Country Hawke Cup player Ronnie Kotcamp was the standout in Albion's win over Appleby in Gore.

He top-scored with 38 in Albion's 196 batting first and then took four wickets to help dismiss Appleby for 130 in their chase.

Southland spinner Mike Grattan extended his lead as the leading wicket-taker in the competition when he took three wickets for Albion.
