Southland golfer Vaughan McCall has claimed a top 10 finish at the Riversdale Cup in Melbourne.
The 22-year-old from the Gore Golf Club fired a two-under par 70 in the final round at the Riversdale Golf Club to finish on a two-under par total and in a share of eighth place.
McCall had rounds of 72, 75, 70 and 70 to finish six shots back from Australian Ryan Ruffels (70) who won the title by one stroke from compatriot Todd Sinnott (75).
The former New Zealand Amateur Champion, who finished tied third and leading amateur at the LawnMaster Classic on The Charles Tour recently, is among the favourites to make the team to represent New Zealand at the Eisenhower Trophy in September.
Bay of Plenty golfer Hayden Beard also enjoyed a fine week across the Tasman.
He shot a four-over par 76 in the final round but he still finished in a share of 10th place after scores of 70, 71 and 71 in the opening three rounds.
Auckland golfers Tae Koh (70) and Sam An (71) finished in a share of 17th place as the next best of the Kiwis.
