Strong field for champs
The Central Districts Championship will be played at Winton Golf Club on Sunday, with the tournament set to attract the top players from the area as they tee off for a range of trophies and prizes.
The tournament includes a 36-hole championship for men and women, as well as an 18-hole competition for men and women, and trophies and prizes are also up for grabs for the top male left handers over 18 holes.
The tournament is sponsored by SBS Bank, with the 36-hole championship teeing off at 8.30am and the 18-hole competition at 12noon.
Sam McCracken has equalled the best gross score on Otautau Golf Course, with a 67 gross score with placing. The talented Otautau club member, who plays off a 3 handicap and is a trainee greenkeeper at The Hills, equalled the record set by Wayne Ruru, of Mataura. Wayne also recorded a 67 gross with placing back in May 1995.
Former Otautau golfer Colin Lindsay shot a gross 70 without placing back on the May 28, 1983, and equalled this in October 1989 with placing.
Judy Tecofsky had a memorable round of golf at Riverton Golf Club on Saturday scoring a hole in one on the 2nd hole. Not only that, but she backed it up on her second nine with a two on the same hole - meaning it took her just three shots to play the second and 11th holes!
The Southland Secondary Schools Golf Tournament was played last week at Winton Golf Club.
Wakatipu won the teams' gross section, with Gore High taking the teams' nett title.
In the individual standings, Logan Anstiss (Wakatipu) and Hannah Arnold (Verdon) won the boys and girls nett respectively, with Daniel Price (Central Southland College) and Hannah Arnold taking the honours in the boys and girls gross scoring.
