Mark Pavitt made a spectacular comeback to speedway racing after a 25-year absence, at Oreti Park, near Invercargill, on Saturday night.

Racing as part of the Burt Munro Challenge, 53-year-old Pavitt crashed heavily during a solo classics race in front of a crowd of about 5000 but was able to walk away afterwards.
