Its Ollies Excuse went under the qualifying time by 8.5sec at Gore yesterday.

The 3-year-old Bettor's Delight gelding won in 2min 46.8sec for 2200m (mobile), which is 0.8sec outside Barney Rubble's Southland qualifying record.

Its Ollies Excuse, trained at Rakauhauka by Clark Barron, is out of unraced Live Or Die mare Nice Bromac, who also left Bromac Maravu (1:50.4, US).

Nice Bromac's half-brother, Not A Deal, won the Roxburgh and Riverton Cups.

Galleons Instinct and John The Fib qualified in the trotters' heat. Four-year-old Galleons Instinct won in 2:59 (2200m stand), while John The Fib ran 2:59.4 in warm conditions.

Gore trainer Chris Gerken is considering Galleons Instinct for the Wyndham meeting on Sunday week.

''I think she'll be all right,'' Gerken said.

Stablemates Spirit Of Art and Rockin Cullen finished first and second, respectively, in a non winner's trial yesterday. Spirit Of Art prevailed by two and a-quarter lengths in 2:44.1 (2200m mobile).

Branxholme trainer Kirk Larsen said the two 3-year-olds would be nominated for a fillies and mares' mobile mile at Wyndham on Sunday week.

Meanwhile, blood tests have revealed Ted West was slightly dehydrated when he raced below his best and finished fifth in Sunday's Riverton Cup at Ascot Park.

Ascot Park trainer Ray Faithful said yesterday that Ted West was having a quiet week.

''We'll regroup and start again with him.''

In other harness racing news, classy 3-year-old Elios has been sold to clients of Christchurch horseman Robert Dunn.

Elios thrashed a strong maiden field by seven and a-quarter lengths at Gore (October 28) when having his second start for Yaldhurst trainer Brent White.
