Pub boss counts on Franco Ledger
Ranfurly Hotel owner Barry Adams will shout the bar for two hours if Franco Ledger wins the $600,000 New Zealand Cup at Addington today.
Franco Ledger is owned in the Maniototo and Adams has plans in place for a southern victory in the country's richest harness race.
He expected 40 to 50 people to be in the hotel to watch the race on television.
Last Tuesday's Melbourne Cup television coverage had drawn a "good crowd" to the hotel, Adams said.
"Twenty women from Waipiata rode in on horseback and spent the afternoon here [on Melbourne Cup day]."
Their horses were tethered near the hotel.
Franco Ledger is owned by Ryal Bush trainer-driver Hamish Hunter, Paul O'Neill, John Catherwood and Bevan Dowling, of Hyde, Tony O'Neill, of Gimmerburn, Bruce Harvie, of Middlemarch, Mike Cornelissen, of Mosgiel, Ken McConnell, of Clyde, Neil Tisdall, of Perth, and Brendon McIntyre and Rob Wilks, of Invercargill.
