Southland-trained Franco Ledger has finished eighth in today's $600,000  New Zealand Cup at Addington in Christchurch.

Franco Ledger, driven by his Ryal Bush trainer Hamish Hunter, led early in the premier staying race, of 3200m.

He took a trail at 2800m, but got pushed three back on the inside with a lap to go.

The 5-year-old entire battled gamely but was unable to close on the leaders.

Terror To Love won the cup for the second consecutive year and gave driver Ricky May his sixth win in the glamour event.
