New Caledonia trainer-jockey Kalai Selvan is on a working holiday in Southland.

He is available for race-rides during the next six weeks. His visit to Southland fits in with New Caledonia's racing season, which is from April to October.

Selvan, who trained 10 winners last season, broke a leg in a trackwork mishap in August. He used to be a Southland-based jockey.
