Ascot Park trainer Sabin Kirkland is considering an unnamed Coats Choice filly for the Gore Guineas in January.

She galloped clear for a convincing three-length win in a maiden heat at the Winton trials on Saturday. The 3-year-old was ridden by H Y Cheng, who is attached to Sally McKay's Invercargill stable. Cheng earlier worked for Balcairn trainers John and Karen Parsons.

A fisherman, Kirkland has applied to New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing to name the filly Marlin Monroe. Kirkland is overdue for a win in the guineas after racking up seconds in the classic with Coat Of Arms (this year), Lob Star (2009) and Eel Win (2008).

The filly could have her first race start at Ascot Park on December 15. Her dam Ha Ha McGrath (three wins) is out of Minolta (two wins), who rates as a half-sister to Chinon (six wins) and Mutta Burra (six wins).

A close relation to Wyndham Cup winner Gladiator's Choice won another maiden trial on Saturday. She is a 3-year-old unnamed Danske filly trained by Knapdale horseman Ellis Winsloe.

Her preparation has been interrupted with a split hoof injury.
