Workouts were held four carts out from the pylons at Ascot Park today.

It has rained in Invercargill since 10am today and track staff did not want the inside to the middle of the track used a day out from a race meeting.

There were no problems but for safety reasons, the eight-horse field for the non winners' mobile was split into two divisions. The first division started about 30 seconds ahead of the second group.

It was quite interesting watching two races on the track at the same time.

West Plains trainer-driver Andrew Armour guided Ice Maiden to victory in a learners' stand today. The Mach Three-Ice The Cake 3-year-old filly won by two lengths and had plenty in reserve.

Ice The Cake won five races for Pukekohe horseman Steven Reid. Her first foal, Ohoka Moon, scored nine wins.

Julius Maximus also recorded a comfortable win when beating two rivals in a non winners' stand. He was driven by Tim Williams, who tasted success behind Kabet in a heat of the Sires' Stakes 3-Year-Old Fillies' Series at Addington last night. Williams's father, Brent, part-owns the Robert Dunn-trained Kabet.

Ted West (leader) and VC Windermere (trail) dead-heated for first in the one or more wins stand. The last 400m was run in an impressive 28.8.

VC Windermere's close relation, Windermere Lad, resumes work with Invercargill trainer Murray Faul on Monday after having a short break.
