Easybet nears retirement
Winton mare Easybet will be retired after racing at her hometown meeting on Sunday week.
She has won three races from the Price family's stable and was a game third at Gore on Sunday after facing the breeze for the last 1200m.
Co-trainer Katrina Price said the 6-year-old Bettor's Delight mare would be mated with Somebeachsomewhere in the spring. Stablemate Ardghal (nine wins) will resume at workouts next week.
Another member of the team, Surprise Party posted her second win from as many workouts at Ascot Park on Saturday. Both times she won well.
The 5-year-old mare will return to racing in a maiden fillies and mares' race at Winton. In her debut, she fell before the start and was made a late scratching at Gore in April.
Surprise Party galloped behind the mobile and was pulled up in her next start at Ascot Park, but then showed promise with a second at Winton on May 26.
Price said Surprise Party was hard to gait and difficult to train as a young horse. Being well-bred was the only reason the Prices persevered with her.
Surprise Party is by Christian Cullen from Champagne Party (14 wins), who won the Group II Queen of the Pacific at Moonee Valley, Melbourne, and Group II Premier Mares' Championship at Addington.
Price is pleased Surprise Party is starting to show her worth.
''She's not completely foolproof, but she's got a lot of bottom.''
Price and training partner husband John are working 18 horses.
