Van Eva became the fifth generation of her family to win for Balclutha breeder Eddie Van Asperen when successful at Ascot Park today.
A 4year-old mare by Badlands Hanover and trained by Stuart Cook, Van Eva is the first foal of Van Livy, who won three races when trained by Tony Stratford.
Van Livy is by Live Or Die from Van Hope, a winner by Soky's Atom from Going Smooth (two wins). Going Smooth was by Smooth Fella from Good Going, who won eight races for Mr Van Asperen, the first at Winton in 1978 when driven by John Cox and trained by Harry Cox. The daughter of Smooth Hanover-Goody Good, who changed hands for $1400 at the 1975 national yearling sale, won five including the Lantana Lodge Ladies Mile at Addington from the Ali Malcolmson stable and two for Robin Butt.
