Southland owner happy
Gore part-owner Matt Brinsdon is delighted with Phantom Grin's game second in today's Kaikoura Cup.
Driven by Dexter Dunn and trained by his father Robert, Phantom Grin trailled Fly Like An Eagle who scored a front-running success in the Group II $50,000 Cup.
Brinsdon was not at Kaikoura but received a text message from the Dunns saying the gelding had pulled up well.
``He's made the step up . . . the beach training is helping him,'' Brinsdon said tonight.
``There was a bit of wear and tear in his legs.''
Phantom Grin (eight wins) will race at the New Zealand Cup meeting at Addington next week. Brinsdon hopes to start him in the Central Otago (Omakau), Northern Southland (Ascot Park) and Invercargill Cups during the summer.
