Race officials were pleased with the size of the crowd at the annual Omakau harness meeting in Central Otago yesterday.

The New Zealand Racing Board officially counted 4740 people on course.''

Board spokesman Tony Russell said: ''We're happy with that.''

''It's up on last year when we had rain.''

Thoroughbred racing is being held at Omakau today and will be followed by harness racing at Roxburgh (Sunday) and Cromwell (Tuesday).
