Sky Television’s existing pay-television customers will not get its forthcoming subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) service free-of-charge after all.

The company announced last week that it would launch a service, separate to its broadcast pay-television service, by the year that would let people watch programmes over the internet at a time of their choosing.

Sky said at the time that this on-demand content would be available to existing subscribers for no additional charge, via MySky boxes or Sky Go.

But company spokeswoman Kirsty Way clarified today that while internet-connected MySky boxes would provide access to a lot of video-on-demand programming, including “a lot of the same content” that would be offered through its SVOD service, Sky “did not plan to give the new SVOD service to Sky customers for free”.
