Budding game designers can get their hands on Team Dakota's creation tool, Project Spark, on October 9, Microsoft announced today.

The software is coming to Xbox One and Windows 8.1, and will be a free download. Additionally, the Project Spark Starter Kit will release for Xbox One at retail with a suggested price of $59.95, and includes a range of premium content: an epic campaign adventure called Champions Quest, the first sci-fi pack Galaxies: First Contact, the warrior champion Sir Haakon “Hawk” the Knight, and more.

All content from the Starter Kit will also be available for individual, digital purchase on both Xbox One and Windows.

For those who don't want to wait until October, Project Spark is currently in an open beta phase on both platforms, and any creations will carry over to the full release. To sign up for the beta, visit the Project Spark website.
