Firefly Online will see the return of Nathan Fillion, Alan Tudyk, and other cast members from Firefly, the cult favourite TV show upon which the game is based.
The entire crew of Serenity will reprise their roles, with Tudyk playing multiple roles, reports io9. Michael Fairman is also said to be returning, once again playing the crime lord Niska.
A new trailer for the game was revealed at San Diego Comic-Con, which features a number of fans explaining the kind of captain they'd be, with Fillion among them. “I’d aim to misbehave, but that’s just me talking,” he said.
Firefly Online is being developed by Quantum Mechanix and Spark Plug Games for PC, iOS, and Android. In it, players create a captain, recruit a crew, build a ship, and travel the 'verse looking for jobs. Players will be able to create and post their own jobs for others to undertake.
Firefly ran from September to December 2002, before being cancelled before the conclusion of its first season. It has since developed a dedicated fan following, who refer to themselves as "Browncoats," after the nickname given to the side of a war Fillion's character, Malcolm Reynolds, fought for prior to the start of the series.
As well as Firefly Online, Fillion and Gina Torres (who played Zoe Washburne in Firefly) also star in Destiny, playing the Hunter Vanguard, Cayde-6, and the Warlock Vanguard, Ikora Rey, respectively.
