Telecom says there are no guarantees its YahooXtra mail service won't fail again after a problem this week delayed the delivery of emails sent through webmail over two days.
The fault was the fourth to have affected the service since May. Telecom outsourced its email service to Yahoo7, a joint venture between United States Yahoo and Australia's Seven Network, in 2006.
Telecom spokesman Michael Burgess said running an email system for hundreds of thousands of people was "not without its issues and like most other email providers we cannot guarantee that there won't be an issue in the future".
"But when they do occur we work closely with Yahoo to resolve them quickly and with as little disruption as possible."
Telecom understood how important a stable and reliable email service was to its customers, he said.
"Keeping them connected is critical for us."
