People will be able to dispense with the ".co" and ".net" in ".nz" web addresses and register new websites with simpler addresses, such as "wellington.nz" or "johnsmith.nz", under a new policy approved by InternetNZ.
The non-profit society, which sets the rules for the New Zealand internet space and receives a cut on all ".nz" website registrations, said the change would give people more choice.
No changes were being proposed to existing web addresses, which would still work.
A final policy setting out how the new addresses would be made available would be put out for public consultation next year, the society said.
