It was a case of "swing low, sweet chariot" when members of the British Disabled Ski Team took time out of their Winter Games racing schedule to play with gravity at the Shotover Canyon Swing.

The team joined other swingers when its members experienced the pure adrenaline of a 60-metre free fall before swinging through a giant arc at 150kmh, from the 109m platform above Shotover River.

Top British skier Sean Rose organised the swing session for the team.

"We all had an amazing time and it really felt good to be part of the swinging community," he said.

Canyon Swing marketing manager Claire Stewart said there were at least 10 jump styles that could be adapted to suit an individual's "tolerance for fear and fun".

"The use of chest and seat harnesses mean people can leave the platform any way they desire to get the maximum canyon rush."

Ms Stewart said the team members all had an amazing time and managed to "get a bit of variety in their jumpstyles".

The team, which is entered in the super G and slalom events at Coronet Peak, is also in training for the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics.

Has rugby had a fair deal at the Halberg Awards over the years?

No. They should have won more gongs than they have.

It's been about right.

More than a fair deal. Other sports are more deserving.
