HE'LL BE BACK: Shane Cameron's manager Ken Reinsfield is adamant that the 31-year-old Cameron still had a future in the fight game.

Shane Cameron has a massive headache and badly bruised ego but he will fight again - that was the message from his handlers after he was beaten up by David Tua.

Cameron lost just the second fight of his 25-bout professional career when Tua knocked him out seven seconds into the second round of their heavyweight clash in Hamilton last night.

Cameron didn't attend the post-fight press conference as he was taken to hospital for checkups after being knocked down three times in quick succession with Tua unleashing a furious assault on him.

"It was a devastating win," Cameron's manager Ken Reinsfield said acknowledging the power of Tua.

"Shane is OK. He has had precautionary tests. This is the game we are in, the business we are in.

"David Tua is a hell of a puncher and he got caught."

Reinsfield believed Cameron was fit to fight the second round after the opening round ended in confusion with referee Bruce McTavish left counting out Cameron for an agonisingly long time as the bell to finish the round eventually sounded.

Reinsfield said he was asking Cameron to repeat his instructions to him in the corner at the break between rounds and the fighter was responding by doing just that.

"He was lucid," said Reinsfield. "David Tua jumped on him and caught him again."

Reinsfeild said Cameron would now be given a couple of months off to get over this.

But he was adamant that the 31-year-old Cameron still had a future in the fight game.

"Shane is young and determined. He will come back - Shane is no quitter."

Reinsfield said there were no complaints about taking the fight that saw Cameron lose his WBO Oriental and Asian-Pacific belts.

"The whole nation wanted the fight, Shane wanted the fight. They made the challenge and we responded. We have no regrets."

Reinsfield said Cameron wasn't the first fighter to lose to Tua in this manner - and he mightn't be the last either.

But there seems little chance of Cameron looking for a rematch after coping this sort of lesson from the senior puncher in New Zealand.

This fight was a true reflection of what Tua has always been about and I dont know how Cameron and his camp could have been so stupid to assume that Tua was to fat and to slow, which shows you truly how ammatuer he really was going into this fight. Those comments he realed off in interviews pretty much destroyed his chances of victory before he stepped in the ring. Remember Tua fought at the highest level in pretty much his worst form if your talking about speed and weight and now the condition that he is in, well I can only see good things to come.Shane you stood up some serious punishment and I take my hat off to you for not throwing in the towel, but on this occasion you were way out of your league. I still think you've got some talent but with the coaching and opponents you face in Australasia you will only become a journeyman. The US is where you need to be and from there I can seriously see you making a name for yourself.

for us polynesians we would know how tough it was for tua to get in the ring after the tsunami disaster.. to our beautiful island, our thoughts and prayers are with you all... full credits to tua for being humble and striking at the right time... cameron will recover from the fight but our people and family in samoa wont..

I think CAMS got the makings of a champ in having guts but this has to balance up in moderation with an experienced team and some better quality opponents. Tua, although aged, exposed CAM to the realities of the top tier fighters in the HW division outside of Australasia. There is no free bus ticket to the top, which is what CAM and camp tried to get in taking on an inactive Tua who was having personal battles in couurt. Bad decision! CAM needs to regroup and not let the hype of the occassion get to him because it hurt his confidence in the end. NZ'ers need to rally behind both these boys & support their careers because unlike the americans and europeans, theres not that many kiwi's in the division representing us. Kia Kaha CAM & Faamalosi TUA.

Well done Tua, I always knew you would knock out Cameron, you have to much power, boxing sense and exprience. I think the only way to beat a boxer like Tua is to be at least 6"7 tall like Lewis so you can keep him at a distance and pick him off and MOVE MOVE MOVE.... never let him get set.

Lets give Shane some credit for giving Tua the opportunity to do what he does best. Shane may recover from this, and perhaps learn. Maybe now would be the time to tell Ken that he needs a 9 to 5 job. Judging by the way Ken stared at Shane when he was knocked out for the last time, Ken couldn't care less for his fighter. To send the Warrior out in the second round was a very selfish move from the Cameron Camp. The fight should not have gone past the first round. Maybe someone should have thrown Ken in DT's path??? Shane, you're braver than I thought. Let some of that pride go and ask the Tuamanator for tips.. Your newest fan..

Well Done!   #88   12:32 am Oct 06 2009

I think the trash talk might have been part of hyping up the fight.Great win by Tua though .I didn't like the "BS" everyone says about Tua being a humble man.I remember seeing his antics when he was winning in America .Ego all puffed up .Like Cameron he got bought down to size by Lennox. The most boring heavywieght title fight I've ever seen .Now he can go and get his Tua man Haircut again ,lol....pffffffff.Again great win TUA.

tua had nothing to lose and everything to win, financially as well as his credibility as a boxer, for tua to have a crack at title contention he had to make an example of someone and it's a shame it was another kiwi, tua won't wear the heavy weight belt but he will get 1 or 2 scalps along the way, best he keeps fighting now while he is in good shape mentally and physically,it will be interesting how long he can maintain his current condition, cameron is poorly led and it showed on fight night, and at that terrible press conference,he was put to slaughter.a young man on a leash by wolves,as tua once was. i think if cameron surronds himself with good people as has tua,he will come back but to what degree i dunno. this is a very mature and different tua to the flabby brawling mess who took on lewis. his compassion for cameron was admirable.and i hope he does well in his future fights and i hope shane cameron is okay, tua was devastating.
