Tua jumps to four on world ranking Tua and managers settle differences Tua takes half of $7.5m after long legal row Tua offered 'Friday the 13th' fight Heat on Tua to make up his mind

David Tua won’t fight in Auckland before Christmas with his promoters announcing plans for him to fight in January in one of four cities - New York, Honolulu, San Paulo or Berlin.

Hopes to have Tua front against big-mouthed Nigerian Friday Ahunanya - who said he would knock the Kiwi out – on December 12 have disappeared although there is still no news on whom Tua’s next opponent will be.

Tua's global promoter Cedric Kushner only released the four international venue options on Friday as interest continues to build around Tua’s comeback following his two round demolition of Shane Cameron in Hamilton, a win that gave him the WBO Asia Pacific and Oriental belts as well as the organisation’s No 4 ranking.

Kushner said from his New York office that he was aware that the media had anticipated that Tua would have a December fight in New Zealand. However, Kushner said with the significant interest abroad in seeing Tua, ''I have decided to have his first defence outside of New Zealand, and then return later in the year.''

Another complication for a December fight was the unavailability of Tua's American trainer Roger Bloodworth in that timeframe.

Kushner has promised to bring Tua back to New Zealand on a campaign he is adamant will take him to another world heavyweight title fight next year.

In a statement Tua said: "I love fighting at home. I haven’t done it that often, but I am excited about showing the world what I am capable of doing and as Cedric said, we will definitely be back in New Zealand later in the year.

"I really believe that my time has come and I will be the world heavyweight champion in 2010."

Ahunanya had agreed to fight Tua next month in an event put together by Duco who made such a success of the Mystery Creek fight night.

Kushner and Duco are working together on Tua’s future path.

The offshore alternatives will present bigger purses and the option of lucrative international pay-per-view markets as Tua’s domestic TV coverage is restricted to Maori Television for his next three fights.

Yeah Duncan, I'm with James. Buy a dictionary, then you can look up dfeintions. And spelling. That is, if you're intersted.

Terrible, misleading headline. Tua should sue for defamation...if anyone cared for Duncan Johnstone's opinion that is!

Tua isn't shunning NZ. He's doing what he should have been doing the last 5 or so years.. Instead of fighting legal battles he's now getting back in the ring with the big boys. Good on ya David.I Hope you get your shot.

Instead of Tua 'shuns' NZ, why not be positive with a title such as: Tua reclaiming world stage?

"Tua shuns NZ for bigger stages" You wouldn't think so reading the article.

I wish Moari TV would do the right thing and release or loosen Tua from their contract.

David has gotten too big for them and by being greedy and holding him to the current terms and conditions all they are doing is helping to chase him offshore.

Regardless, I hope David does great his next fight. Go the Tuaman!

Good on him! Why stay in smallville where you are just a tax number on a welfare form?

Good on ya David. We all hope to see you in the ring doing your best. it's a pity mts only had their own means in sight. Give 'em a taste of Kiwi-ish.

YAY! Sanity prevails!!

Duco are amateurs... Ahunanya is semi active at best. the only reason why there's any interest in him at all is because he beat Cameron. and we all now know what level Cameron is on.

David Tua Vs Ahunanya is an insult to the NZ sporting public.

Khali Meehan has publicly stated he is willing to fight Tua. Oliver McCall's manager recently said they would be interested in coming down to NZ to fight Tua.

But lets be honest here... if David Tua is serious about being a genuine heavyweight contender he needs to step up to the plate and make the fight with Chris Arreola happen. but with Bloodworth unavailable, December is probably out of the question.

Tua at the moment poses far too much risk for very little reward, so the current contenders wont touch Tua with a bargepole. Arreola however has been calling out Tua for a couple of years now.

So obviously that's Tua's big chance.

An early 2010 fight with Arreola will be the only realistic springboard Tua will get to a world title fight in 2010.

Don't you think the wording 'Tua shuns NZ for bigger stages' is making it out as if Tua is turning his back on New Zealand? Tua hasn't got much time left in his career so of course he is going ot fight bouts with bigger purses. Duncan Johnstone, you are a journalist, buy a dictionary, put it beside your computer and everytime you think about writing an article look up the word 'objective', if you've never come across the word before you'll be intersted in hte dfeintion 'Uninfluenced by emotions or personal prejudices'. Look it up, hey maybe even print it off and share it with your colleagues.
