Aussie Rules bosses wait to interview Lara Bingle
BY SCOTT SPITS
The AFL says it is still waiting to interview Lara Bingle as part of its investigation into whether controversial footballer Brendan Fevola had any part in the circulation of the infamous nude shower photo.
As the fall-out from the saga continues with Michael Clarke leaving the cricket tour of New Zealand to be with his distressed fiancee in Sydney, the AFL today admitted its investigation had stalled without Bingle's co-operation.
Fevola was questioned by the AFL's new manager of integrity Brett Clothier last week and reportedly denied he had taken the photo of a showering Bingle, snapped during their affair in 2006.
"As soon as we became aware of these allegations, our integrity officer has spoken with Brendan Fevola, his club and has been seeking since last Wednesday now for the opportunity to speak with Lara Bingle," AFL football operations manager Adrian Anderson told radio station SEN today.
"To date, that request has been refused.
"The only stumbling block from our point of view ... is that we do not have co-operation from Lara Bingle's people to be able to talk to her, and we're continuing to seek to do so."
Anderson denied the AFL's investigation had "fallen over", reiterating that it was the league's responsibility to speak directly to the alleged victim and not rely on second-hand reports.
"It's going to make it very difficult for us to pursue this properly if we can't do that. The next and logical step is to speak to Lara Bingle and that's what we've been endeavouring to do."
