Bad boy golfer John Daly was taken into police custody last weekend after being found ''extremely intoxicated'' outside a Hooters restaurant in North Carolina.
Paramedics were called to the restaurant at 1am last Saturday on a report that Daly had passed out. They called for police, who arrived to find Daly drunk and unwilling to go to the hospital, the Winston-Salem Journal reported.
A police statement said Daly ''appeared extremely intoxicated and un-cooperative'', refused repeatedly to be taken to the hospital and was asked to leave the restaurant by several workers.
Daly was taken to the Forsyth County Law Enforcement Detention Centre for a 24-hour stay until he was sober.
The 42-year-old is a two-time major champion but he hasn't had his PGA Tour card for the past two years. He burst onto the scene in 1991 after winning the PGA Championship as a relative unknown. He has won five times on tour including the 1995 British Open.
Daly, who has been divorced four times, has been suspended from the PGA tour multiple times.
He currently ranks rank 89th on the PGA Tour's all-time money list, with earnings of $9,109,268.
