Crusaders to go platinum away from home

Now, before any of you start, the Crusaders' new strip is definitely not grey.
Sure, it looks grey but it is in fact platinum and will be worn by the Crusaders for all of their away fixtures during the next two seasons of the Super 14.
And, more importantly it will soon be available in a store near you.
It is all part of Super rugby's plan to boldly go where pretty much every other professional code has gone before and have dedicated away apparel.
"The franchise jerseys get updated every two years, so this is our biennial update. Both adidas and the franchises were pretty keen to see a revamped look that reflected some of the associations with that particular franchise," Crusaders chief executive Hamish Riach said.
"In the Crusaders' case we have the use of the sword down the front of the jersey, which is a strong reminder of some of the imagery that's associated with the Crusaders. I think it adds a really great look to the jersey and it links it clearly with us and what's been achieved in the past and we're pretty excited about that."
Sword aside, the home strip looks pretty much the same. So, Hamish, talk to us about the grey one.
"The second part of the jersey revamp has been a move to a more permanent away strip. In the past we've had an alternative strip, where there's been a jersey clash, which has been predominantly white in our case. Adidas offered us platinum as a base colour that reflected some of the historical success we've had and it does link with the idea of a sword, in a colour sense."
It would add a new layer of imagery for the team, he said.

Looks like the away-shorts have been inspired by Buck against the French.
Umm,why the need for an away jersey? Wear an alt jersey when there's a clash otherwise stick to your own colours. Not exactly rocket science. I very much doubt that adidas will sell many of the away jerseys. Fans in all provinces should boycott them in my opinion. Thank God we've retained control over the AB jersey.
And how come the Blues away jersey hardly differs at all from their home jersey? Typical. Nobody likes them anyway
The sword just directs peoples eyes to their crotch, like an arrow. The gray is much better than white though, so I'm happy enough.
Yep sorry, die hard crusaders fan here, the new strip sucks, and yep again, its grey.
Unlike many of you, I actually like the Platinum colour.
Platinum has the symbol Pt, and is chemically very close in resemblance to Gold (Au symbol).
Pt(II) is isoelectronic with Au(III). Both enjoy soft ligands, but wow our Rugby boys down south definitely aren't soft!
Lets hope having Platinum will help the Cantabs get Gold... I mean 'Au'
They took the regions off the team names ages ago, owing to the fact that the teams are made up of provinces outside those regions. Ie The Blues have Northland, so can't be called "Auckland Blues"
Taranaki, Palmy North etc are included in the Canes, so they can't be labelled Wellington........well, you get the idea.
DDub, calm down, perhaps he forgot about those areas.
I don't think it is that bad when you look at the uniforms of some of the overseas clubs. For example the Stade Francais away uniform is bright pink. Who cares what the uniform is as long as they play good rugby. I think when the away strip clashes they will play in their home strip. I'd be more upset if I was a Hurricanes supporter, their away uniform looks so boring, like grey cloud in a Hurricane.
Nice one APeters... typical Christchurch arrogance... Nelson/Marlborough are also part of the crusaders and have no black on their uniform.

who cares? nobody's forcing you to buy it! as long as they play well, it doesn't matter. and how often are they going to need to wear it, there's only a couple other teams that play in red anyway!
