A TV3 sports journalist was reduced to tears during a radio interview in the wake of Shane Cameron's boxing defeat on Wednesday.

Sports Tonight host Howard Dobson broke down during an interview with Radio Live Sport hosts Ian Smith and Nathan Rarere just hours after Cameron was beaten by Danny Green in the IBO work cruiserweight fight.

Speaking today, Dobson stood by his reaction.

"The old saying that big boys don't cry, well I can tell you that's not true."

"He's just a staggering chap.... he's done New Zealand proud," said Dobson told the radio hosts as he choked back the tears.

"He wants to carry on, right now he just needs to recover.... But he'll be back, he'll be back."

"His father said he let nobody down and they love him ...... and it's just staggering what happened."

How long do you think Hawke's Bay will hold the Shield for this time?

Two weeks. Otago will take it easily.

I think they'll defend it until they play Wellington.

The rest of the season. They are too good.

Shield? Hawke's Bay? I thought Counties had it!
