Wellington Saints star Corey Webster says Friday's 76-74 loss to the Taranaki Mountain Airs was the most embarrassing moment of his career.

"Never been so embarrassed," Webster wrote on Twitter after the game.

"But we will never be this embarrassed again . . . PROMISE!"

Webster, the National Basketball League's leading scorer, was held to just 16 points on 5/14 shooting against lowly Taranaki in New Plymouth.

The shooting guard also turned the ball over in the final seconds to scupper the Saints' chances of a game-tying or go-ahead basket.

The loss was Wellington's sixth of their last nine games and the slumping Saints (8-6) are now equal third with the Waikato Pistons.

With four games of the regular season remaining, the Saints' next chance to resuscitate their campaign is at home to the Canterbury Rams on Friday.

Canterbury pulled off an upset 99-84 win over Waikato yesterday.

Richie Edwards scored 31 points for the Rams.

On Saturday, Waikato beat the Nelson Giants 87-74, the Southland Sharks shaded the Manawatu Jets 91-83 and leaders Hawke's Bay (12-2) wrapped up the regular season title with a 105-90 defeat of the Super City Rangers.

What did you make of the Tall Blacks' World Cup campaign?

They did NZ proud making it past the first round.

They finished about where I expected they would.

I'm disappointed. They had a good team and should have gone further.

Tall Blacks? Who cares. Bring on the Breakers.
