The Wellington Saints solidified their title credentials by thumping the National Basketball League leading Harbour Heat 126-90 in Wellington tonight.

The Saints rode the coat tails of American shooting guard Eric Devendorf as they inflicted Harbour's second defeat, both coming on the road, this season.

Devendorf, who supplied 31 points on debut for Wellington against the Christchurch Cougars two weeks ago after being released by the two-time defending champion Waikato Pistons, again shone for his new team with 38 points as they extended an unbeaten home record to four matches.

Wellington, who led 59-53 at halftime, upped the tempo to dominate the third period 30-21 before running away in the last quarter for a big win.

Devendorf had support offensively by Lindsay Tait, who scored 21 points, and fellow import Erron Maxey with 20 points.

The result left the Saints fourth in the NBL standings at 6-3, while Harbour remained top of the league at 8-2.

The Heat's best was American centre Rick Rickert with 23 points, while Tall Blacks forward Ben Anthony contributed 20 points and import guard Kavossy Franklin 17 points.
