MAY 2012 - The Trailerboat Issue
May is the month of the trailerboat as Boating gears up to the Hutchwilco New Zealand Boat Show with a special issue focused on unadulterated outboard power. But don't fret if you're a sail-powered boatie - there are some awesome yachting adventures to keep you happy including stunning images from the Volvo Ocean Race's brutal Southern Ocean leg and a great yarn from the recent SSANZ Two-Handed Round New Zealand Race.

What's inside?

New Boats
Stabicraft 2880 Supercab - Lawrence Schaffler trials our May cover boat - a Hutchwilco NZ Boat Show debutant - on Lake Taupo and likes what he drives.

Beneteau Antares 8.80 - And you thought Beneteau only did yachts!

Blackwatch 42 - Here's an American-style sportfisher out of Australia by the way of China for the launch lovers.

We also have first looks at the Dibley 7.7 Weekender, Haines Hunter's new 725 softtop, Stabicraft's new 1410 range, the Allenco 9m (with a cool name), the Sealegs 7.7m cabin boat and the new baby Seawind 950 sailing catamaran.

And wait, there's more boat reviews...

A bloke and his boat - We sent John Eichelsheim to Invercargill to review the new Image Cruisemaster 10.5. He ended up in Stewart Island with a bloke called Jumbo and returned home with a yarn much bigger than a boat review.

On Watch -  Sail muscles in on all the power at the HutchWilco NZ Boat Show, new towing laws, MATT WATSON and much, much more in our news pages...

My Boat - Senior Coastguard master Campbell Hopes welcomes you aboard his beloved Riveria 39 Kyrenia.

Jim Lott and Karin Lott enjoy a white Christmas in the fiords of Patagonia - after a mishap with a fishing net.

Magical New Caledonia - Alvah and Diana Simon explore the "Paris of the Pacific".

ICA DIY series - John Martin offers a handy guide to anchoring in a blow.

Practical Boating

On-board heating - Extend your boating season with Lawrence Schaffler's heating guide.

Build a kitset boat - Sam Stewart's 3.6m DIYNO runabout starts to take shape in part three of our DIY alloy boat building series.

Kayak fishing - Resident fisho John Eichelsheim grabs a paddle in his latest Out of the Ocean adventure.

AC World Series - Emirates Team NZ dominate the latest round in Naples until the last race. We wonder if that's fair?

Ad Feedback

Volvo Ocean Race - Rebecca Hayter asks why the round-the-worth marathon has turned into a boat-building competition.

Young 88 - Don't miss Lindsay Wright's latest class focus, including coverage of the Young 88 nationals won by Grant Turnbull's Dangerzone.

SSANZ Two-Handed Round NZ Race - Sarah Ell caps a circumnavigation that rival the Volvo for drama.

Vintage Perspectives - William Boucher and his 20th century launches.

Retros and Classics - John Macfarlane sits down with Don Lidgard.

PLUS: New designs from Greg Elliott, Kevin Dibley and Noah Thompson, an amphibious car, and more brokerage listing than you can shake a boat hook at. All in your April issue of Boating New Zealand. On sale May 3.
