Leading New Zealand triathlete Andrea Hewitt tuned up for the Commonwealth Games with a good hitout at the Hamburg stop of the ITU World Series.

Hewitt was fourth in the elite women's race - and third across the line of the Commonwealth competitors - less than two weeks out from Glasgow.

She stopped the clock at 57 minutes and 11 seconds for the half-distance event, 17 seconds behind American Gwen Jorgensen who yesterday became the first triathlete to win four successive world series races.

Jorgensen had to come from the back of a large, leading group at the start of the run. Halfway through, the group was down to six. With 1km left Jorgensen sprinted away.

Australia's Emma Jackson was second and Kirsten Sweetland, of Canada, third. Both were 11 seconds ahead of Hewitt.

Nicky Samuels was 18th in 58:04 and Kate McIlroy was 26th in 58:42.

New Zealand's leading male triathlete, Ryan Sissons, finished 20th in the elite men's race which was won by Olympic champion Alistair Brownlee of Britain, who won his first world series race of the year with a late sprint to head off Vincent Luis, of France, by two seconds.

Jonathan Brownlee was third, 5sec back, as the brothers look in great shape for Glasgow.
