The Silver Ferns are likely to rest injured shooters Maria Tutaia and Cathrine Latu for tonight's (NZ time) Commonwealth Games pool game against St Lucia.

New Zealand are scheduled to take on the tiny Windwards Islands nation at 10.30pm but will take a conservative approach with their starting shooting circle.

Tutaia has a foot strain which will be closely monitored, with Latu has a mild calf strain following the win over Northern Ireland.

There's better news regarding Ellen Halpenny, whose international debut against Scotland was marred by a sprained ankle which forced her from the court.

Halpenny has suprised Silver Ferns management with the speed of her recovery and could play against St Lucia.

It's likely she'll start the game with Jodi Brown, and while Shannon Francois will provide back up at goal attack, the Ferns have had to explore other shooting options within the squad, including the likes of one time goal shoot Casey Kopua.
