Auckland conceded first innings points to Canterbury on the third day of their four-day Plunket Shield cricket match in Christchurch today.
Former international Scott Styris' 10th first class century, supported by opener Ravi Bopara's 90 and a battling half century from Reece Young, saw Auckland declare at 392 for seven in reply to Canterbury's 540 for eight declared.
Canterbury openers Rob Nicol and Michael Papps then survived the last two overs before stumps, with a draw in prospect in tomorrow.
Resuming today at 157 for two, Bopara and Styris added another 60 runs before the former England international was trapped in front by Chris Harris.
Styris crafted two more useful partnerships with Gareth Hopkins and Young before he was bowled for 112 shortly after tea by former Auckland spinner Jason Donnelly with the Auckland total on 340.
Canterbury captain Kruger van Wyk worked his way through eight bowlers on a pitch which held few threats for the batsmen. Donnelly paced his way through an impressive 48 overs, 15 of them maidens, for the best return, picking up two for 84 runs.
Medium pacer Andy Ellis also picked up a brace, while Leighton Burtt, Nicol and Harris took one apiece.
