Former Australian Test opener Matthew Hayden has been bowled for a duck as his Chennai Super Kings lost a thrilling one-over eliminator against Kings XI Punjab in the Indian Premier League.
Hayden, who scored a quickfire 33 in Chennai's innings, was bowled by Juan Theron in the second ball of the eliminator after both teams had posted 136 in their 20 overs.
Yuvraj Singh top scored for Punjab as the visitor's batted first, hitting 43 off 28 balls in the Kings total of 8-136.
That didn't look enough after Hayden and Parthiv Patel (57 off 58) put on 65 for Chennai's first wicket, but the hosts lost their way in the final 10 overs to finish 7-136 with Ravichandran Ashwin holing out on the final ball with just one run needed for victory to send the match into an eliminator.
When Chennai skipper Suresh Raina was dismissed on the fifth ball of the super over, Punjab needed just 10 off their six deliveries to win.
Fittingly Yuvraj won the match for the visitors, reverse sweeping Muttiah Muralitharan's fourth delivery for four to seal a thrilling victory.
The win was Punjab's first in four matches this season, while the Super Kings have now won two and lost two.
In the day's other match, another all-round display by Andrew Symonds has guided the Deccan Chargers to their third straight win.
Symonds scored 35 in the Chargers 6-171 against the Delhi Daredevils in Cuttack.
Despite a lightning start by NSW tyro David Warner (57 off 33 balls, four sixes) in the Daredevils' chase, Symonds secured the win for Deccan with three late wickets on his way to figures of 3-21 off four overs.
Symonds started the Daredevils' slide by dismissing NSW allrounder Moises Henriques for 11 before claiming a great caught and bowled to remove Delhi skipper Dinesh Kartik and then Amit Mishra with consecutive deliveries in the 19th over.
Deccan skipper Adam Gilchrist also played well, scoring 24 off 14 balls for the Chargers.
The win lifts Deccan up to second on the ladder, while the Daredevils have two wins from their five matches so far.
