Auckland Aces demolish Central Stags in Plunket Shield with two sessions to spare
The Auckland Aces didn't need too long to wrap up their four-day Plunket Shield cricket match, beating the Central Stags by an innings and 64 runs with two sessions to spare at Nelson Park in Napier.
Resuming on Friday morning at 239-4, the Stags added only three runs before Will Young was caught by Jeet Raval for 86 having added only two runs to his overnight total.
Dane Cleaver came and went for 31 including six boundaries but Doug Bracewell (6) and Ben Wheeler (11) both fell cheaply and the Stags were in deep trouble at 327-8.
Stags captain Kruger van Wyk batted patiently for his 55, hitting five fours. But when he departed with the score at 346-9, any hopes the home side had of making Auckland bat again disappeared.
Number 10 batsman Sean Rance came up with a 37-run cameo hitting six fours and a six, but it was never going to be enough.
Lockie Ferguson was by far the most impressive of the Auckland bowlers finishing with 5-58, with open bowler Matt Quinn picking up the wickets of Bracewell and Wheeler to finish with 2-77.
