Police had to be called after the outraged taxi driver parked on the pitch.

This may just be the strangest pitch invasion of all time - and it's given a Brisbane cricket team a game to remember.

Macgregor Cricket Club's side anticipated a run-of-the-mill home match against Griffith on Saturday.

But they were knocked for six after Nigel Sherborne hit a six, straight into the windscreen of a waiting taxi.

The cabbie retaliated by parking on the pitch, while demanding the culprit come forward.

After about an hour of delayed play - and several player selfies with the taxi - police convinced the driver to leave.

"Cops moved him on, asked us if we wanted to charge him but we said no he was already having a bad day, never seen anything like that in all my life," Macgregor's Troy Burns posted on Facebook.

It wasn't to be his team's day.

Eight overs were lost in the taxi standoff, before another Macgregor player took a bat to the face and was rushed to hospital.

The team eventually conceded.
