Lorraine Downes' tribute to 'my beautiful man' Martin Crowe
Martin Crowe's wife Lorraine Downes has delivered a heartfelt message as the cricketing great is farewelled in Auckland on Friday.
Downes posted a touching message on her Facebook page.
"Marty you truly loved me well. Forever grateful to you, my beautiful man. It all will never be forgotten. Until we meet again," she wrote, signing it off with two pink hearts.
Crowe lost his long battle with cancer last week, dying at the age of 53.
His funeral is being held at Auckland's Holy Trinity Cathedral on Friday afternoon and will attract a mass of sporting stars along with friends and family.
Crowe's death sparked a multitude of tributes to the master batsman from fellow cricket stars and also from greats of other sporting codes.
The ceremony, which begins at 1pm, will be led by Downes, Crowe's brother and former New Zealand captain Jeff Crowe and former teammate Ian Smith.
Current Black Caps stars Martin Guptill and Ross Taylor, who Crowe mentored, are expected to make tributes from India where they are preparing for the Twenty20 World Cup.
