Never Forget
By Georgia McNeill (11)
Tuturumuri School, Martinborough
One day I felt like fishing
But the tide was so high
I’ll wait until another day
So I can make it worthwhile.
I got up the next morning
And the tide was oh so good…
I will need a boat, rod, and a coat with a hood.
I was on the boat with my friendly mates
Oh no, Kate had stolen my bait
But I sighed in relief
Because there on a leaf was a wiggly squiggly worm!
It was a great day’s fishing
There was lots of hissing
When I caught the biggest fish
WITH MY WORM!
Also on a trip I will never forget
The things that will help us stay alive. Like …
The beacon that bobs up and down,
The flare that says ‘can you see us, we are right here?’
The life jacket that is yellow to keep us in the shallow
And you can’t forget my friends
The mini flares that say I’m here, I’m here, I’m here!
Snapper Mayhem
Alex Snadden,

It was a fine summer’s day at Foxton Beach. I awoke from a long sleep to prepare to go fishing. I was so excited hoping to catch my first fish. I scoffed down my breakfast and in no time we were off, speeding down to get a good spot close to the sea.
The waves were roaring high, coming at us and pounding down on the shore. We set up by a dry bit of driftwood; it was cracking by the minute.
I chucked my line out to sea hoping to catch in minutes. That was not to be. I waited for at least five minutes, but then I got a bite. It grabbed my bait and soon I was having a tough battle with the fish. I pulled the hardest I’d ever pulled. In the end I won. As it wiggled up the shore I saw it was a snapper. It was snapping at me as if I was its meal!
I measured the length of it. It was perfect. I licked my lips when I heard it was a good size to eat.
We drove back to the beach house to cook it up on the barbie. It was a good fishing day and I won the battle with the snapper.
