Profile boat goes to Whitianga winner

Three generations of the Radojkovich family will benefit from the Hiwi the Kiwi Profile boat fundraising raffle, drawn early in March.
Nedilka Radojkovich of Kuaotunu, a small beachside settlement 20 minutes north of Whitianga, was drawn as the winning ticketholder for the Profile 520 Cuddy boat put up as the main prize in the Hiwi the Kiwi Fishing for the Future programme’s major fundraising effort.
Nedilka and her husband Mark do a little fishing off the beach from a 12-foot dinghy, but will now have no excuses for not going further afield in their new $48,000 rig that includes a 70hp Yamaha outboard, Lowrance electronics from Electronic Navigation Ltd, TiCA tackle from Kilwell Sports and safety equipment from Hutchwilco, all on a DMW trailer.

The winning ticket was purchased in Whitianga from a stand set up by Mercury Bay Sport Fishing Club members outside the local supermarket.
Both stunned and thrilled with her good fortune, Nedilka says her son Brandi and grandson Jai have already put their hands up for the first fishing trip.
The prize package was handed over during the final night’s prizegiving of the Mercury Bay Club’s three-day trailerboat tournament. Profile Boats’ representatives Brian and Brenda Firman were there to present the prize, along with NZ Sport Fishing’s President Richard Baker and raffle co-ordinator and Vice-President Evan Mackay.
Richard said the more than $100,000 raised will go a long way to ensuring the future of the Hiwi the Kiwi project.

“We are delighted the prize is going to a family that intends putting it to good use, sharing it among their generations – Nedilka is a fitting winner,” Richard says.
“The effort many clubs and their individual members put into selling the books was also much appreciated. Without them, the fundraising would not have been as successful as it was.”
“A big thank you must also go to the major sponsors – Profile Boats, Firmans Marine, Yamaha, Electronic Navigation, Kilwell Sports, DMW Trailers, B-line Rigging and Scaffolding HB (along with a number of smaller contributors) – for their generosity and assistance.”
This is the first of three annual boat raffles to be conducted as fundraising for the Hiwi the Kiwi Fishing for the Future programme.

Join the Hiwi the Kiwi Club
As part of the Hiwi the Kiwi Fishing for the Future programme, a website club has been established through which young and old anglers are invited to sign up on line.
The Hiwi the Kiwi Fishing Club invites anglers to become ambassadors for future fishing and commences in April.

Free membership is available to youngsters under the age of 16. The girls will be known as ‘Angel Fish’ and the boys as ‘Devil Fish’. Each ambassador receives a certificate that acknowledges their membership.
All members will go into monthly draws for $500 worth of various sponsors’ product, starting this month with Fishart Gallery, and there will be competitions and activities put up in due course.
A range of Hiwi the Kiwi branded product will be available for purchase, from clothing to lifejackets, books and CDs.

The site will also carry much more of the student’s classwork than can be published in NZ Fishing News, where just one or two each month can be run. It will also serve as a resource for the schools either involved with, or considering taking on, the programme.
Adults are also welcome to participate in the club, but for them there will be a $5 cost that goes to the Hiwi the Kiwi Fishing for the Future programme. They will also be eligible for each monthly draw prize over a 12-month period.
Readers are invited to browse the site on-line at www.hiwithekiwi.co.nz to find out more and join up.
