With a later than usual wet season, we have been experiencing tropical conditions right through to early May.

With the water temperature still around 27°C and moderate winds, the fishing conditions have been reasonably good. There hasn’t been an abundance of action, however quite a few of us have been catching mahimahi around 14-16kg, and there have been some good runs of yellowfin, many in the 20-30kg range, with the odd one up to 80kg if you were in the right place at the right time.

There have been a good number of marlin around, and customers taking day charters have a good show of getting one on at present. Most charter boats are seeing one a day.

There are some great deals to be had at the moment if you are keen to have a fish in Vanuatu. The tourist numbers have been a little down on previous years, so there are a couple of locally-run operations doing four-hour charters for around NZ$250. They are small vessels, but they will get you out for some fun and action at very affordable prices. Some of the resorts are doing great deals, as low as NZ$100 per night, and airfares are also very good at the moment, so why not come on up? If you need any info on these deals, drop me a line.
