When the The Guardians of the Sea (Nga Kaitiaki mo Tangaroa) Charitable Trust was formed in 2006, careful consideration was given to laying an enduring foundation, the trust deed.
The deed includes sound objects (see www.guardians.org.nz/objectives) that underpin the drive for ‘more fish in the water/kia maha atu nga ika ki roto i te wai’. What emerged is an asset for all New Zealanders to be proud of, as healthy and abundant fisheries are in everyone’s interest.
For those willing and able to contribute, a tax deduction for all donations is now provided. Law changes a couple of years ago abolished the previous ‘cap’ on qualifying charitable donations. Hence monies donated to the trust provide a full deduction against the donor’s income for tax purposes. We provide qualifying receipts for all donations.
Other contributions are made possible by your purchases of Black Magic ‘option4’ lures and tackle from The Warehouse.
For grant recipients – the champions who we have talked about in previous updates – a grant made possible by your generosity, is lifeblood for improvements to our fisheries, now and into the future.
Billie Jean King is credited with having said, “Champions keep playing until they get it right.” Our champions will keep playing as long as your support remains; they are inspired when funds are made available to assist their work. Together we can get it right. There is an underlying thread common to all those receiving the benefit of your giving: the desire to deliver a future where our children and their descendants can continue to put a feed on the table because there are sufficient fish to cater for the needs of all.
As we slide into the festive season of giving this month, please consider how you can help. Tackle purchases, as outlined above, or direct donation to the trust, are all invaluable contributions. They are also greatly appreciated. Monies are applied judiciously for maximum effect and our overheads are low, resulting in effective spend where it counts the most. If able to assist by way of donation, please contact us. All contact details are on our website www.guardians.org.nz and any of our trustees will welcome your call. Alternatively, please contact Steve Sangster (secretary) on 021555485 or email steve@guardians.org.nz.
To all readers, we wish you, your friends and family a safe and enjoyable end to this year and the new beginnings of 2010. Take care, stay safe and tight lines everyone.
