Brazil's astounding 7-1 loss to Germany in the World Cup semifinal has been lambasted by footballing fans from every corner of the globe on social media.

No one, apart from a New Zealand man who put $40 on the correct scoreline, could have predicted the shellacking Germany were to hand Brazil in front of their home fans, many of whom were reduced to tears at the half-way mark when the score was 5-0.

Australian striker Tim Cahill unintentionally started a Twitter craze with the hashtag #timcahilling after he posted a photo with his hand over his mouth in a shocked manner when Germany scored their fifth goal in the 29th minute.
