New Zealand Football is poised to unveil Anthony Hudson as the new All Whites coach after the Englishman was relieved of his duties with Bahrain.
Following an emergency meeting yesterday, the Bahrain Football Association announced that national under-23 coach Adrian Whitbread would take control of the Kingdom's senior side when it assembles for a training camp next week.
The BFA said it had referred Hudson's resignation letter - which it received on Sunday - to its legal counsel.
Hudson was under contract with Bahrain through to February 2016.
Hudson, 33, has been offered the All Whites job vacated by Ricki Herbert in November and NZF had hoped to announce its new coach at a press conference in Auckland last Thursday.
But it was forced to delay proceedings as Bahrain sought to retain the services of a rising coach described by Harry Redknapp as a "young Jose Mourinho."
Assuming Hudson is cleared to take control, his first assignment with the All Whites will be during the September 1-9 Fifa window.
The All Whites are booked in for a training camp at Qatar's cutting edge Aspire Academy ahead of the September 8 friendly against Uzbekistan in Tashkent.
It is unclear who Hudson's support staff will be.
Herbert's assistant, Neil Emblen, coached the All Whites on an interim basis this year and has signalled his desire to remain in the programme for the next World Cup cycle.
But it is believed that Emblen, overlooked for the top job, was in the dark about his All Whites future as Hudson emerged as NZF's preferred candidate from a shortlist also comprising Australians Frank Farina and Gary van Egmond.
Hudson - the son of former Chelsea star Alan - is one of the world's youngest national team coaches and holds a UEFA Pro Licence.
He coached Bahrain to four wins, five draws and three losses since gaining a promotion to the senior side in August.
Hudson's coaching inspirations are Chelsea coach Mourinho and Marseille manager Marcelo Bielsa and he spent time learning from both men last year.
