It's every TV presenter's nightmare - a live cross with an idiot or two in the background.

But Sky TV's Alan Irwin suffered a new fate today - having a purple sex toy poked in his ear as he went about his reporting business in Britain.

Irwin was covering "Manic Monday" the final day of European football's summer transfer window.

He found himself outside the Everton club's training complex at Finch Farm, part of Sky's extensive coverage presenting developments on a day followed intensely by the football faithful.

And when he went live to air, a fan seized the moment, waving the purple dildo around Irwin's head and finally prodding him in the ear with it before a security guard intervened.
