David Beckham fans grabbed a tasty memento of the great one's New Zealand visit.
When the football superstar made an impromptu visit to Nando's restaurant in Wellington for a chicken dinner on Friday, a crowd of admirers waited until he had finished the meal and then rushed in to grab the scraps.
"I've never seen anything like it," Nando's worker Jody told Sunday News.
"He was sitting in a booth and as soon as he left people came in and started grabbing his leftover food."
Jody, a 20-year-old Victoria University student, said she was stunned when Beckham wandered in off the street and she thought the international pin-up was a treat.
"I was shocked when he walked in," she said. "I was like, `What is David Beckham doing at Nando's? Surely he could afford to eat anywhere he wanted'.
"He was so hot. Way hotter in real life than he is on TV."
Jody said Beckham arrived with a massive appetite. "He ordered a whole chicken, corn, coleslaw and fries...and he gave it all a really good go. There were only the chicken bones, a few chips and some corn for the fans to take away."
