A sellout crowd of more than 34,000 will cram into Westpac Stadium for another taste of finals football.

The last tickets to watch the Wellington Phoenix take on the Newcastle Jets on Sunday were sold yesterday. However, Phoenix chief executive Tony Pignata hoped at least some of 260 tickets reserved for Jets fans would be released in the next few days.

"Of course we want to make sure Jets fans get a chance to get their tickets as well."

The enthusiasm of fans for the Phoenix was excellent, he said. "I think it shows we're doing things right both on and off the pitch."

The club has asked fans to dress up in yellow to show their support.

David Cross, of the Yellow Fever supporters group, said he would love to see the stadium "yellowed out". "The important thing is you bring your singing voice as well."

Yellow Fever has put out a T-shirt for the game, with the slogan "Your first time is always special".

The sellout comes on top of news that the Phoenix have been granted a 10-year licence extension to play in the A-League, subject to approval by world football governing body Fifa.

The record crowd for a football match at Westpac Stadium is 35,179 for the All Whites' World Cup qualifying match - a 1-0 win against Bahrain on November 14. That was boosted by extra seats.

They could not be put up for Sunday's game, as there would not be time to dismantle them before the next one-day cricket match.

The biggest sporting crowd at the stadium was 39,000 for the July 2005 test between the All Blacks and the British and Irish Lions. Robbie Williams drew 42,500 fans for his 2001 concert, which included thousands on the pitch area.

Why is everyone complaining for? Your there to support the Phoenix and If you want to buy the shirt do so, otherwise just wear a Yellow Shirt instead!! Easy as that!!

They should put up extra seats esp if peeps are asking for it!

Go yellow, go the fever, go Nix!!!

??

Where does anything in there say anyone is obliged to buy a Yellow Fever shirt ? The club promoted a Yellow Out - not us at the Fever - we already had a shirt for sale that is yellow but at no point have we said anyone is expected to buy our shirt or anything else.

The only quote from me says "The important thing is you bring your singing voice as well".

Heck, we haven't even advocated Yellow, we've said wear what you've been wearing so you don't change the jinx. Find it odd that we have to defend oursleves for statements we have never made. Personally I'll be in a black season one kit without Sony on it, because it's what I've worn for the entire duration of the undefeated ring of fire streak.

Does that clear things up for you Shaza ? If not feel free to PM me on the Yellow Fever website and I'll try and understand what your gripe is.

@ Shaza, no one is there to support the YF. The YF and it's members are there to support the Phoenix.

The YF have been behind the Phoenix before they even existed, and the reality is that they also need funds to operate. YF do an absolutely amazing job, from running the website to providing scholarships, to organising events and marketing the Phoenix.

YF are huge part of what has made the Phoenix what they are today, and our value is far more than what the sale of a few club shirts could ever match.

Don't you get it. The yellow fever are saying turn up in yellow, not turn up in our yellow shirt. If you have a team playing shirt I am sure that you have noticed that it is yellow (and black) so no problems with wearing it.

They are simply providing an option for those who do not have anything yellow or cannot afford the $ 130.00 for an official Phoenix shirt but would like a "souvenir".

No one answered my question. Why don't we go in the kits of our team, we are there to support the phoenix, not the yellow fever

@ FC Shaza

Firstly, I would suggest that the yellow fever t is likely to be priced in the $ 20.00 - $ 30.00 range (although don't know this for a fact) whereas the Phoenix playing shirt will cost at least $ 100.00 so it is a way in which they can get those that cannot afford the price of a playing shirt to wear yellow on the night (after all how many people have yellow tops in their wardrobes.

Secondly, the Yellow Fever are one of the driving forces behind the success of the Phoenix, they are the ones that create the atmosphere etc that so many people rave about after they have been to a Phoenix game (the did the same for the All Whites' qualifier too) and they are there week in week out supporting the team and providing much needed ticketing revenue.

Thirdly, a large portion of any funds made by the Yellow Fever are directed back to the Phoenix - this is why they are a "SUPPORTERS CLUB".

Where in this quote "The club has asked fans to dress up in yellow to show their support." does it say Yellow Fever called for the 'Yellow Out' ?

Kiwi Hatter   #23   11:31 pm Mar 02 2010

RexHapi, what has this got to do with NZ. This is about the Wellington Phoenix. The colours are Black & Yellow, the fan club is the Yellow Fever. The call has gone out for Yellow. OBEY. How dare you question the word that has been spoken by the mighty Fever. In all seriousness go to/watch the game wearing whatever you want and ENJOY.

Stefan   #22   11:15 pm Mar 02 2010

Rexhapi.

The Warriors have done black outs. The All Blacks have done Black Outs. Why should we copy what the egg chasers do?

Oh, By the way.

Australia wears Green and Gold. As in. Green and Gold Army.
