Perth Glory have confirmed the sacking of coach Ian Ferguson, with former Socceroo Alistair Edwards appointed interim coach until the end of the A-League season.

Ferguson was shown the door by club owner Tony Sage after an  eighth successive A-League game without a win, a 2-0 loss to the  Melbourne Heart at the weekend.

It was their fourth straight loss and the fourth consecutive  match the Glory had failed to score.

The club confirmed Ferguson would no longer coach the club ''by  mutual consent''.

Edwards will be assisted by another former Glory player, Gareth  Naven, until the end of the season.

The Glory are five points from sixth-placed Sydney FC in the  race for the finals with nine regular-season rounds remaining.
