Wellington Phoenix duo Louis Fenton and Tyler Boyd will train with Werder Bremen in preparation for next month's Fifa Youth Cup in Switzerland.

Fenton and Boyd fly out on Saturday as part of Wynton Rufer's 'WYNRS' team, who will represent New Zealand at the tournament.

A Phoenix spokesman said the opportunity with Bremen was not an official trial and the young attackers went with the club's blessing. Rufer is a former Bremen star and the German Bundesliga club have also been linked with All White and A-League player of the year Marco Rojas, who is off contract at the Melbourne Victory.

Fenton and Boyd are contracted at the Phoenix for two more seasons and were regulars in 2012-13 after being upgraded from the club's school of excellence.

The WYNRS team will be the first Oceania representatives at the famed youth tournament which is celebrating its 75th anniversary.

Opinion poll

What do you make of Tommy Smith's decision not to play for the All Whites?

It's fair enough. He's already got a massive workload.

He's been a great servant for the All Whites. His request not to play is fine by me.

It's disappointing to say the least. What happened to national pride?

It's unbelievable. He shouldn't be picked for NZ again.
