All Whites striker Chris Wood named in English Championship team of the season
The accolades continue to roll in for Chris Wood.
In stunning form as Leeds United make a strong push for promotion to the Premier League, All Whites striker Wood was named in the English Championship team of the season on Monday.
The 25-year-old, who links up with the New Zealand squad in Wellington this week and will captain the side in their World Cup qualifying tie against Fiji in Lautoka on Saturday, is the leading scorer in the second-tier Championship.
Wood took his tally to 24 goals in 36 games after netting both goals in a 2-0 victory over Brighton on Sunday, keeping Leeds fourth on the league ladder with eight rounds remaining.
The top two Championship sides earn automatic promotion to the Premier League, with the teams placed third to sixth playing off for the third and final ticket to the big time.
Wood also scored three times in four League Cup appearances earlier in the season, giving him an impressive 27 goals from 40 matches in 2016-17, and is not the only Leeds player to make the Championship team of the season.
Swedish defender Pontus Jansson also made the cut, as did the player closest to Wood on the goal-scoring tally, Newcastle United's striker Dwight Gayle, Socceroos midfielder Aaron Mooy and his manager at Huddersfield Town, David Wagner.
The team was voted on by a media representative of each of the 72 clubs in the English Football League, each one selecting their 11 players and a manager.
